Do One Thing

What’s the plan, business woman?

opbp-august09One day. One page. One plan. One dream come true.

At least it was for me. I went from frantically running in place at high speed, to jogging along happily in the direction of my business dream. Only it wasn’t just a dream: it was a plan. And it became a reality. Amazingly (to us, if not to the Biz Diva), my partner and I laid out what exactly—financially, culturally, and practically—we wanted our business to look like. And, at the end of the year, when we went back to review, we were so close. Within 3% of our financial projections—which, when we made them, seemed a little hard to imagine. We had the clients we wanted. We were doing the work we planned on. It was magic.

But it wasn’t magic. It was the One Page Business Plan®.

Now you can experience the magic for yourself. The Biz Diva is giving a One Page Business Plan One Day Course on August 17 in Santa Rosa. If you don’t have a workable, practical plan, you can’t afford to miss this class.

You can go here to learn more about what the class includes, and to sign up online.

Here is the online flyer for the specific class.

And may I suggest that you take advantage of the “early bird” sign-up and save $50. That bird will fly August 3, so do it this week!

Say Thank You!

by Deputy Diva on June 16, 2009

in Do One Thing

homemadenotecardsThe Biz Diva considers this one of the most powerful business practices around–and it’s free. Do it daily and you are guaranteed to have a more positive outlook on life. And you will be adding to the sum total of civilized discourse in the world!

It’s a thank you note! Actually, one successful entrepreneur we know, Jim Horan of The One Page Business Plan, says, “I write at least three. Every day. It puts me in a very positive state of mind.”

Ideally, you’d use some lovely customized stationery with your logo on it, but that can get a little expensive for a small business. So we did a little research and found the very nice Avery Note Cards at your local office supply store. You can print two-sided on them, and you can even print your return address on the envelope! And I only had to lay out about $25 instead of the more than $300 the local printer, Kinko’s, and Vista Print wanted.

Happy Monday! No—really!

May 17, 2009

Today is smile day.
Do just this one thing. It takes 4 minutes. I know, because I did it and timed myself.
We guarantee it’ll make your work life better OR YOUR MONEY BACK.
Oh wait, you didn’t give us any money. EVEN BETTER.
Print out this pdf, and cut out the reminders. Scatter them about, wherever you want, [...]

How to Use Inspiration

March 26, 2009

You know just how it is: you get inspired by a quote from someone, you attend a lecture and walk out thinking “Yes! I will change now!” And then you go home and watch TV. Maybe not every time, but enough of the time to make it hard to believe in change.  You just have [...]

I love this website: No Recession For Me

February 17, 2009

This is the place to go when you’ve heard one too many stories about the bad economy.
Stand up and reject the recession! This beautiful site is so well done that I think I want to watch it every morning. The music (it sort of sounds like “Bolero”) is enough to make me wade back into [...]

Get referrals!

February 16, 2009

Referrals can be the most valuable marketing tool to a small business, but most of us leave them to chance. Oh, we do good work, and we’re trustworthy and honorable, so we get some referrals. But what if you could create a system that would ensure that you got many many more?
John Jantsch posted an [...]

Day #6: Sit Up

February 2, 2009

Yes, right now. Put both feet flat on the floor, check your elbow angle, and pretend there’s an invisible string coming out of the top of your head, gently pulling you into a straighter position. Your head should float on the top of your neck.
My mom constantly reminded me to stand up straight. I thought [...]
